Rainbow Stripes at Acorn House

Rainbow Stripes, aka Pete and Sue have been delivering live music workshops for the under 5’s and their families since 2003. Both Pete and Sue share a core belief that music with children should be a freely accessable and work hard to keep to this ethic. The power of live music for social, emotional and physical benefits has been well documented and this can be evidenced in every session. The sessions always have a mix of activities, combined with the organic mixture of live music mean that no session is the same.

The power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories and kickstart the grey matter is an increasingly key feature of dementia care. It seems to reach parts of the brain in ways other forms of communication cannot. Not to forget - have you ever seen the effects of a child visiting someone who has Alzheimer's disease or dementia? If you have, you know that the effect that children have is significant, especially for older adults who are living with dementia. Having witnessed the beauty of children and older adults interacting many times, it appears that all involved benefit from the richness of intergenerational time together with live music from Pete and Sue. Our residents loved spending time with the parents and toddlers and enjoyed a sing along! We can't wait for them to visit next month!
